Which Sofitel Bangkok Should You Choose?

Whether you’re a hardcore Sofitel lover or a business traveler with a decent amount of Le Club Accorhotels points, when it comes to choosing a Sofitel hotel in Bangkok, chances are you may wonder which one to pick on your next stay.

Now that the former Sofitel has been rebranded and is now a Pullman, you have to choose between the brand new Sofitel So Bangkok and the Sofitel Sukhumvit (meaning lifestyle versus old school luxury)

Having stayed at both, here’s our point of view.

the Sofitel So Bangkok

Why go: Christian Lacroix designed it, along with 5 renowned Thai designers. Don’t go for basic rooms, but choose one of the 4 Elements upper rooms: Water, Air, Metal… you’ll get amazing views, free WiFi, better products than the usual Eau Verte by Hermès and Apple devices straight in your room.

Bars & restaurants: Park Society is the main attraction, with its gastronomic menu and its famous rooftop bar to enjoy Bangkok from above with a nice lounge music. Very trendy though, meaning very hype. You may want to check out Red Oven for decent international food, or the unusual Chocolab for chocolate lovers.

Lounge Club:  le Club Millésime offers a small terrace and a lounge where you’ll get access to complimentary tea-time, drinks, private breakfast in the morning, etc.

Fitness & Spa: great gym and a Spa l’Occitane (book a double treatment room) + a very nice swimming-pool where you can enjoy breathtaking views on Bangkok’ skyline (whether it’s the best in the city is another debate).pool-sofitel-so-bangkok-silencio

Service: we stayed a short time after the opening – and it was still “so, so”…

Location: well… it really depends on why you’re in Bangkok. If you like running in parks in the morning, you’re good to go (there’s Lumpini across the road). Otherwise, you’re in Sathorn. Your choice!

Price: from 115€

Magnifique Breakfast offer: yes

Atmosphere: Couture with a touch

the Sofitel Sukhumvit

sofitel-bangkok-sukhumvit-double-room-silencioWhy go: this Sofitel gives you what you can expect from the brand. Design is less extravagant and couture than the Sofitel So Bangkok, but you’ll enjoy contemporary rooms with a decent amount of space, depending on what you book.

Bars & restaurants: we LOVE the French restaurant l’Appart. Not because it’s French, but because it’s sooo good. And you’ll get access to the amazing rooftop bar from the Sofitel Sukhumvit. Enjoy Bangkok at night: it’s yours.

Lounge Club: the Club Millésime is bigger than the Sofitel So’s. You’ll enjoy the same benefits, plus a top-notch complimentary cocktails hours with hot and cold meals. (that’s also why you should book an upper category: it’s great savings on drinks in the end:))

Fitness & Spa: try a massage at the Spa l’Occitane and enjoy an outside pool where swimming is actually… possible.

Service: wait on hand and food.

Location: here’s another advantage. You’re in busy Sukhumvit, close to Soi 11. BTS is 10 feet away from the Sofitel Sukhumvit entrance… don’t take a cab from 5pm to 8pm!

Price: from 110€

Magnifique Breakfast offer: yes

Atmosphere: Life is magnifique. Classic Sofitel.

Verdict: which Sofitel Bangkok should you choose?

If you’re more of a lifestyle and fashion-addict traveler, go for the Sofitel So Bangkok. If you prefer classic luxury (in terms of what Sofitel has to offer), choose the Sofitel Sukhumvit over its younger brother.

In both cases, go for a Club room where you can enjoy the Club Millesime Benefits (spa voucher, free local phone calls, private butler, tea-time, complimentary drinks…). WiFi is complimentary in both hotels.

As for us, we loved the Sofitel Sukhumvit, mainly because of l’Appart rooftop and restaurants. We enjoyed the club benefits at both.. and hated not having fresh fruit juices in the morning at both.. 🙂

So, which one will you choose?
