Sunday Brunch at the Lutetia Hotel Paris

Children go off to play in a room set aside for them. Young couples toast with Champagne.

Without a doubt, the Lutetia is a Left Bank establishment and its Sunday brunch is a gathering point for all generations.

We arrived a few minutes before it opened (12 noon), and were seated in the large salon in which breakfast and brunch are served. The table was nicely laid, the buffets ready and the team ready for action, but the ambiance from the customer side is very laid-back, even … cool.

People go to experience a palace “Rive Gauche”, but also for the unbeatable value for money they get in a hotel that never goes out of fashion… and there’s a jazz song in the air. Now we’re talking!

And for a good reason: for €60 the brunch includes everything, including wine and mineral water (the only exception is Taittinger Champagne, for understandable reasons!)

Let’s start with…

The juice of squeezed grapefruit, and coffee, to which one can choose to add one of a number of milks, the widest choice we have seen so far: cows’ milk (various), soya milk, horse milk, ewe’s milk, hazelnut milk…

On the breakfast side, make your choice from the selection of breads (with grains, with nuts, plain), cereals, unpackaged cereals (organic) or those in individual sachets (Special K, Fruit ‘n Fibre …) or the pastries of the day. All with specially selected preserves and honeys.

Serious business: oysters, bread and a cheeseboard. Oh, did we mention the French wines?

A glass of Champagne to go with the start of lunch: the Lutetia brunch offers oysters (!), an exceptional ham, sliced for you to order, beautiful salads, smoked salmon, a cheeseboard, cold meats and a range of hot and cold side dishes to be eaten with your eyes closed: various eggs (we had them boiled), haddock, salmon, egg marinated in a Thai bouillon and served with gourmet peas, wheat, risotto and grilled chicken wings, pumpkin soup … you’ll find it all there!

Everything is served with red or white wine (always available and unlimited – well, that’s no reason to get drunk, but still ! ).

As for the desserts, we defy you not to taste everything: homemade patisserie, little tarts and macaroons, delicacies in a multitude of sugary forms: could you resist?
