Vacations often start when you least expect them to. For instance, while sipping mojitos at 3 pm by the pool. As inappropriate as it may be under different circumstances, it is just perfect if you are on the 15th floor of a gorgeous 5-star hotel overlooking Bangkok.
Flashback. Say hi to our favorite hotel.
It had been too long since we had first set foot inside the St. Regis Bangkok – two years, to be more specific, and three years since our first vacation. It is hard to write about this place – the truth is, we’re kind of obsessed with this hotel. Though we love to try out different hotels, especially in Bangkok, the St. Regis always beats them all.
Where shall we start?
We love this hotel for its impressive volumes, its tall ceilings, its 12th-floor reception desk and its unbelievable sights by day, as well as by night. Don’t waste your time looking for bling: the St Regis brand has been around for more than a century and has a reputation for carrying on a heritage of discrete, service-oriented luxury. There’s an absolutely contagious good cheerfulness wherever you look around – if you take the time to talk to the employees, you’ll soon find yourself exchanging jokes and smiles with them, which is quite refreshing!
“Allow-me”: a 24/7 customized service
Whatever your room type, you get the services of a butler, namely a personal assistant. For our two-nights stay, we had the pleasure to meet “Apple” (that’s her nickname), who was very funny and had a charming sense of humor. Want some coffee on the go? Ask your butler. Want someone to pack up your suitcase? Ask your butler. Have a question about the city? Again, ask your butler (even if there is also a Clefs d’Or concierge available in the hotel). Some stars use their butlers as their personal assistants for the day, while other people never ask them anything.
In any case, all St. Regis hotels around the globe provide this service – and that comes with your room. Of course, you can always tip your butler; they say that certain butlers have made small miracles happen for the hotel clients, without even getting the management team involved!
An ideal stay at the St Regis: restaurants, bars, Spa Elemis
After a comfortable night in your room or in your suite with a view, go grab some breakfast at Viu . The buffets are impressive: all-you-can-eat, on-demand live cooking stands (eggs, pancakes, etc.), sushi and maki, Chinese and Thai dishes, but also bread, cakes, pastries, as well as homemade fruit juice and yogurt, Birscher muesli, coffee and tea… take the time to enjoy a “coffee to go” on the outside patio, while admiring the city view.
You can also book your spot at theSpa Elemisor take a swim in the pool that also offers you a view, unless you’d rather wait for happy hour at the Pool Bar (2 pm-4 pm; buy 1 cocktail, get 1 free; 320B++). In the same time slot, St. Regis’ famous Afternoon Tea is served in The Drawing Room. Which of the two options should one choose? Such a fine dilemma!
Before dinner, start your evening on the patio at JoJo– this is one of the best Italian restaurants in town and the Chef doesn’t compromise on the quality of his work! Slow food, rare burrata, truffle pizza, “green” octopus risotto and a special kind of tiramisu that is sure to impress you. Wine lovers should make it a point to visit the Decanter, which is home to one of the best wine cellars in Bangkok. You can stop there to get dinner or just a glass of wine. Located on the ground floor, Zumais a true thrill for Japanese cuisine lovers. You can also book a table at the Viu, which is the perfect lunch place to grab a snack while checking out the Royal Bangkok Sports Club.
Infinity pool & Elemis Spa on the 15th floor: sublime by day and by night
Located on the same floor, the Elemis Spa is the ideal place to relax after walking the streets of Bangkok…
227 delightful rooms and suites
Depending on the room you’ve booked, you’ll get a view of the racetrack or the city. “Spacious” is the keyword – even twin beds are in fact two double beds! The bathroom includes a double basin, Remède amenities, a large cabinet, a tub and a rain-shower… this is sheer bliss!
Want more? Book the Caroline Astor suite or the sublime Penthouse (located on the 44th floor, it includes an infinity pool, a cellar, bay windows overlooking the city – all of that makes for an exceptional 800m²). We don’t know whether Lady Gaga slept there but one thing is for sure – her stay at this hotel didn’t go unnoticed!
And, of course, since nothing is perfect, this hotel also has a « minor » flaw – you need to pay for your wireless connection, unless you’ve booked an offer that includes it. Luxury hotels have this annoying tendency but the St. Regis in Bangkok has so much to offer that we can get over this.
Location, location, location
In Bangkok, easy access to public transportation is critical during rush hours. Although a taxi ride is almost free, you’ll never be on time if you’re in traffic after 5 pm. The St. Regis has a great location (between Lumpini park and the main shopping centers) and it also provides direct access to the BTS. That’s right, you’ll get straight to the BTS Rajadamri station from one of the hotel’s floors! From there, it will take you 2 minutes to get to Siam Paragon and MBK shopping centers (shopping, movies, games…). In general, you’re connected to all the main city lines. So, it goes without saying that getting to the weekend market (Chatuchak) is a piece of cake.
The magnificent views of Bangkok you’ll enjoy from the St. Regis
For your next trip to Bangkok…
Book a room with the St. Regis eyes closed, all the more so if you’re a SPG member. You deserve your cocktail on the 15th floor.
