Avis and Miles and More vs Flying Blue codes: which one is better?

As fervent users of our Flying Blue membership, especially when we rent a car (and along with our American Express Flying blue credit card, especially with Hertz), we’ve been wondering lately if Miles and More, the loyalty program of Lufthansa and other airlines, was more interesting in both car rates and bonus miles.

Let’s start with Avis. .

Avis & Miles and More: overview of the benefits in 2013

As a member of the Miles and More loyalty program, you automatically get bonus miles when you rent a car with Avis.

3 Miles for every euro spent

– plus you’re guaranteed to earn at least 500 miles, whatever the amount of your rent.

This advantage is significant : even a “small” rental (75 euros ), you will get your 500 miles

Will you get special rates with Avis/Miles and More?

Yes, but you’ll need to use the proper Miles and More Avis awd code:

Miles&More members:  awd Z638701

Austrian members : awd O287100

Swiss members: awd X753100

So, should you choose Flying Blue over Miles & More with Avis?

If you are a member of both programs, that’s the question !

We did a simulation: 3 days, same car, same city, same agency, same hours

With the code awd Miles & More: 74,70 euros

With the code awd Flying Blue Ivory: 70,55 euros (bonus miles: 600, but conditions vary a lot)

Conclusion: for this simulation at least, the Flying Blue awd codes have been more interesting than the Miles and More awd codes. Is it valid for all agencies, days and types of car?

The best thing to do is to do your own simulation
